Exercising in Quarantine

In March, our school started to require us to stay in quarantine because Covid-19 was spreading too quickly in the US. For me, quarantine had the biggest impact on my exercise. Before the pandemic, I attended tennis lessons once a week, regularly attended PE class in school, and would even play badminton in my driveway. Although quarantine changed all of my athletic activities, I still found many ways to exercise at home.

My teachers and parents often remind me to exercise. Sometimes Mrs. Li (my Chinese teacher) will tell us to jump two hundred times after class. My parents will also have me do many jumping jacks. Once, my mom even let me five laps up and down the stairs. Although I think these exercises are tiring, running is even more exhausting.

We have a treadmill in our basement, and my mom will have my sister and I run on it for twenty minutes each day. We can set the incline on our treadmill, and a higher incline corresponds with more physical exertion. Once I raised the treadmill’s incline, but I didn’t feel a big difference. I feel myself getting faster every day, and I think running is good for my body. However, I don’t really like to run. In fact, I prefer exercising on my family’s Wii.

Since quarantine started, I started playing on the Wii every day. There are many exercises on it, including golf, tennis, bowling, baseball, and boxing. My favorite activity is tennis because I have been learning tennis for a long time, and I know many techniques and have a lot of experience. Unsurprisingly, the sport I am best at on the Wii is tennis. However, I am not that good at bowling. Boxing requires the most movement and is much more tiring than the other sports. As a result, I don’t like it and spend less time playing it. Since I enjoy playing on the Wii and can also exercise while doing so, aren’t I killing two birds with one stone?

I didn’t expect that I could find so many ways to exercise at home. What have you been doing during quarantine?
