Movie Review: "Nezha"

By: Kevin Zhao

This summer, an animated movie came out in China. Its name is “Nezha.” This movie quickly became popular. In September, American theaters first showed it. My parents took me and my sisters to watch this movie.

This movie was about a kid named Nezha who was supposed to be a good spirit, but was actually a demon. Everyone called him a monster and didn't want to be his friend. Only his parents and teacher cared about him. Nezha resisted his fate and instead of destroying his hometown, he saved it. In the end, with his only friend’s help, he overcame his curse.

I really liked this movie because it’s very funny. The funniest character is Nezha’s teacher. He's fat, rides a pig, and speaks Chinese with a Sichuan accent. He never thinks of the consequences of his actions, and while fighting a monster, he tried to act friendly to it.

This movie also has an important lesson: I choose my own fate. Nezha said this. He was full of evil magic since his birth and was called a monster. However, he didn’t care. In the end, for his family, he saved his hometown. His parents never told him he was a monster. Instead, they thought of ideas for him to have fun and played with him when they had time. Nezha’s dad even used a talisman that would swap his fate with his son’s. Nezha’s only friend was Aobing, who was the good spirit that Nezha was supposed to be. Aobing became his friend even though they were supposed to be rivals. He even helped Nezha overcome his curse.

This movie was funny and had an important lesson in it. When you ever have a chance to, go watch this movie!
